Bursary
Each year, the ITI German Network awards a bursary to one early-career translator/interpreter. The bursary is intended to help those only just starting out to enjoy the benefits of membership of a professional association. The bursary runs from 1 May to 30 April each year.
What does the bursary include?
GerNet will cover the following expenses for the successful candidate:
- One year’s membership of ITI as an associate or affiliate (including initial application fee)
- One year’s membership of the ITI German Network
- Participation in the ITI German Network mentoring scheme (feedback on three set translation texts from an MITI/FITI mentor)
Who can apply?
To be eligible, you must:
- Have completed a translation or interpreting degree into or out of German within the last 24 months, or be due to complete one within the next six months (measured from 1 April in the year that the bursary commences)
- Currently be working as a translator/interpreter or planning to start up soon
- Not previously have been an ITI member (except student membership)
- Have no more than five years’ experience working as a translator/interpreter
If you are awarded the bursary, we ask that you write an article for the German Network newsletter Netzblatt and/or the ITI Bulletin describing how you have benefited from it.
How can I apply?
Simply send an email to the ITI German Network coordinator coordinator@itigermannetwork.org.uk by 1 April explaining your professional experience to date, how you meet the criteria and how you would benefit from the bursary. Applications can be made in either English or German and should be approximately 250 to 350 words in length. You do not need to provide supporting evidence with your initial application, though it may be requested at a later stage. The bursary is awarded at the discretion of the ITI German Network committee.
